Britten’s magical opera breathes new life into Shakespeare’s most loved comedy. When the King of the Fairies quarrels with his Queen, he orders his servant, a mischievous sprite, to play a prank on her – resulting in mistaken identities, confused lovers and a startling transformation.

From the sliding strings of the magic wood to the rustics’ well-intentioned entertainment, Britten’s ear for beguiling orchestration and melodic invention will transport you to the confusion, hilarity and eerie beauty of this midsummer night’s dream world.

The Sydney Conservatorium of Music acknowledges the generous support of the Alan Hyland and John Luscombe Endowment.

These performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream, op.64 by Benjamin Britten are given by permission of Hal Leonard Australia Pty Ltd, exclusive agents for Boosey & Hawkes Music Publishers Ltd of London.
